World's Best Cheese Straws

Posted by jaylee33

These are so simple and quick, but they taste out of this world. The unusual combination of spices in the Old Bay is a perfect pairing with the Parmigiano Reggiano® cheese. Try it and discover this tasty combo for yourself.

Ingredients (30 cheese straws)

  • 16 ounces refrigerated or frozen puff pastry sheets
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano

Directions (This is Easy!)

Prep Time - 10 min | Cooking Time - 10 min

1. Preheat the oven to 425° F

2. In a small bowl, toss the grated Parmesan with enough of the Old Bay Seasoning to taste.  It can be a little spicy, so go easy on the first batch if you are unfamiliar with the heat level.  Unroll the puff pastry. If it comes in 2 sheets, roll out both sheets. Brush the dough with the beaten egg, then sprinkle the cheese mixture over the dough and use a rolling pin to press the cheese into the dough, rolling it out slightly.

3. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into roughly 1/2-inch wide strips.  Grasp the strip on either tip, lift, and lay on a baking sheet (preferably lined with a silicone mat.)  Hold one tip of the strip down while you twist the other end 2 or 3 times to give a spiral effect.  Press the tips down, onto the baking sheet. Space them 1/2" apart on the sheet.  You may need two baking sheets for all the dough.

4. Bake the strips in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until just lightly browned. Allow to cool on a cooling rack.
