That’s what Whole Foods Market is calling their attempt to take back the Guinness World’s Record for the most wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano° cheese cracked simultaneously. The supermarket chain set the original record in 2008 when their cheese specialists around the USA, Canada, and the UK cracked over 300 wheels.
Last year the Canadian grocery chain Loblaws took the record by cracking 305 wheels simultaneously. Now Whole Foods is aiming to take the record back on Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time) in their stores all around the US, Canada, and the UK.
It will be a spectacle not to be missed as skilled cheese mongers break into the beautiful golden wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano all at the same time. They will be using a time honored technique for splitting open the wheels with a special set of wedge-shaped knives. This technique preserves the beautiful, unique, crystalline structure of the cheese.
Expect costumes, decorations, food pairings, and special activities as each store participates in the record breaking event. Be there to cheer them on and get one of the first nuggets split from the wheel. The crystals will crackle on your tongue and melt in your mouth as the heady aroma of Parmigiano Reggiano fills the room.
