Attention Parmesan.com fans, Meet the Record Pizza Men!

By Parmesan.com | 12.07.2012

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest circular pizza ever baked was made in Norwood, South Africa on December 8, 1990. Weighing in at 26,818 pounds, this massive pizza used nearly 10,000 pounds of flour and measured 122 feet in diameter. For over 20 years, no one has attempted to break this record, until now…

You might be asking yourself, “How many people could it possibly take to conquer such an overwhelming feat?” Believe it or not, a group of only five men will attempt this record on December 13, 2012 and enter into the history of the Guinness World Records. Dovilio Nardi, Andrea Mannocchi, Matteo Nardi, Marco Nardi, and Matteo Giannotte are the visionaries behind this initiative and have spent months studying the recipe and preparing for production. They will be naming this great pizza, OTTAVIA, which derives from the number 8 and is symbolic for “infinity”, just like their project.

Ottavia will also be 100% gluten-free, educating and spreading a message to the whole world about the importance of health conscious food choices. A gluten-free diet can have a variety of health benefits, including improving cholesterol levels, promoting digestive health, and increasing energy levels.

When the makers of Parmigiano Reggiano® cheese heard about this, they could not help but get involved and show their support. The Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese Consortium is a gold sponsor of this event and will be donating four wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano® cheese, making this record pizza taste even better.

For more information on this event, please visit the Record Pizza Men’s official website.

Oh, and how much would this pizza recipe cost you to make? Just about $84,500. Not exactly your idea of a Friday night pizza…

Post a comment below to show your support and share your pizza making tips with the record pizza men! One lucky winner will be selected at random to receive a large pizza stone with rack plus a Ravenwood pizza cutter from Oneida.com.  Stay hungry everyone!

Was the pizza record broken? How did they bake the pizza?

Hi Bruce! Yes, the Record Pizza Men broke the Guinness World Record and crowned Ottavia, now the world’s largest round pizza, as the champion. All five of the chefs spent 48 hours baking the dough in over 5,000 batches, They then had a couple of custom heat jet arms that passed over the surface of the pizza to fuse the toppings after all the ingredients were assembled. In the end the world's largest pizza spanned 131 feet in diameter and weighed 51,257 pounds!
